Nuggets 11:   God Invented Sex

Christians sometimes come across as if we were totally against sex.  That's wrong.  God "made them male and female."   He created sex as fantastic part of his gift of life to us.  He wants us to enjoy sex to the fullest.  But because sex is the human equivalent to nitro or high-tension electricity, God protects us with wise boundaries.  Some of the bitterest tears, the hardest breakups, the worst damage to partners and children, come from thinking we know better than God.  Sex will never bring happiness when we simply use a person for our selfish gratification, or when we worship sex instead of God, or when a relationship is based on nothing more than sex.

Despite today's pressure to revise and reinterpret, the Christian community agreed for 2,000 years that it is wrong to have sex outside of marriage, wrong to go outside your marriage vows, wrong to have relations with a same sex partner or an animal.  There are some murky questions in theology. The principles of sexual morality are not.  It comes down to whether scripture is God's word to us.

God knows how easy it is for us to fall.  He delights to forgive us and cleanse us from the past.  Jesus died so we could be forgiven.  But is it right to ask God's forgiveness just so we can keep doing our own thing?  Forgiveness starts with repentance.  Most Christians fall because they are trying to have it both ways.  Repentance is sorrow for ignoring God and it is really wanting him to be Lord over all parts of our life.  It is deciding that God does know best after all.
