Nuggets 5:   Finding Treasure

I chose the name "Nuggets" mainly to say "short."  If you also discover some gold from God's word, so much the better.  My family, my church and I have discovered gold in the form of the One Year Bible published by Tyndale House.  It is divided into 365 daily portions, each containing scripture from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.  Many of us are spiritually weak for lack of nourishment.  When we resolve to start reading and praying daily, everything seems to come against it.  The One Year Bible only takes 15 minutes a day and is one of the best tools I know for giving God the first place he deserves in our busy lives.

While our daughter Anne-Marie was a teen, my wife Ruth read with her daily through the OYB two years in a row.  At times Anne-Marie wanted to be somewhere else.  But seed was sown that is still at work in her life today.  Our preacher Jerry Reeves is a role model for the church in his reading of the OYB.  From the pulpit he often encourages our members to join him.  "If you have gotten behind, don't give up--just start with today's reading and keep going!"

The OYB is available in several Bible versions and you can even read it online (www.oneyearbibleonline.com) or use the daily references there to apportion your own Bible.   I thought I was too busy to use the One Year Bible.  But then my fellow elders and I agreed to hold each other accountable for shepherding our sheep, praying and reading the OYB.  I am now enjoying the scriptures more richly than ever before.
