Misreading Scripture

How can we “misread” Scripture? We may approach Scripture with the assumption that the Spirit automatically corrects our cultural lenses, but closer examination shows that is not always the case. We do not always clearly understand what the original readers would have had no problem seeing. Because of the distance between “then and now,” we often bring a Western bias to the text. With the help of the below authors, in this course we will attempt to identify nine key areas where we have significantly different assumptions about what is going on in the text. Along with the study of Scripture itself, we will use the book Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes, by Randolph Richards and Brandon O’Brien.
